BioMag research network

One of the strengths of BioMag is its research network that brings together high-level know-how from different disciplines. The main players are, of course, the three founder organizations, but active collaboration has been started with several other domestic and foreign research groups.

Founder organizations:

Helsinki University Central Hospital

• BioMag Laboratory, HUSLAB
  
  • The BioMag Laboratory, HUSLAB, is a research center where a number of research groups collaborate. The laboratory is available free of charge to its owner institutions and for a fee to outside groups.
• Department of Radiology
  • The Department of Radiology has several MRI magnets, including a Siemens 1.5-T device equipped with EPI for fMRI. There is a very close daily collaboration between BioMag and the Department of Radiology.
• Department of Neurology
  • A large proportion of patients studied with MEG come from the Department of Neurology. BioMag has close ties to the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology.

• 1st Department of Medicine (Cardiology)

• Department of Neurosurgery
  • The main interest in using MEG prior to surgery is to locate the somatomotor cortex in order to minimize the risk of damaging motor functions during neurosurgery.
